Visit the website of the college you wish to transfer to. Review the transfer admission requirements laid out on the college's website. Ensure that you can at least meet all of the minimum requirements. Some colleges do not tell you what the minimum requirements are, but most give you some idea of who the typical student is that gets into the college. For instance, the University of Minnesota indicates that the average grade point average, GPA, of its transfer students in 2010-2011 was 3.31 on a 4.0 scale. Since you will be competing with other transfer students for open positions, your qualifications should exceed the typical profile or minimum requirements.
Take the recommended transfer courses prior to submitting your application for admission. Some colleges provide you with a list of courses they recommend transferring because these courses can easily transfer from your previous institution to the one you are applying to. For instance, the University of Texas recommends courses in United States history, anthropology and math, among others.
Submit your application for admission to the liberal arts college of your choice. Apply to more than one institution, if possible, in order to increase the likelihood of getting admitted. Most schools will require that you submit an application along with an application fee, academic transcripts, standardized test scores from the ACT or SAT, and a personal statement or essay about your academic journey and why you want to transfer to their school. If required to write an essay, you should ensure that you tailor the essay specifically to the university or college to which you are applying. Determine which features of the college and its academic programs will most benefit you and include those in your essay.
Visit the colleges you wish to attend and meet with an admission or enrollment counselor. Before you visit, obtain a copy of your academic transcripts so that you can go over them with the admission counselor. The counselor should be able to tell you which courses will transfer and which will not.
