Pennslyvania Interior Design Schools

Some people have an eye for interior design and enjoy decorating a home and helping others decorate their homes. A degree in interior design can help a student to use these skills to find a job that she loves. Several colleges in the state of Pennsylvania offer this degree to students.
  1. The Art Institute of Philadelphia

    • The Art Institute of Philadelphia offers students associate and bachelor's degrees in interior design. The associate degree requires the student to complete 93 credit hours over the course of seven quarters. Classes offered include color theory, design process and residential design. The bachelor's degree requires students to complete 180 credit hours over 12 quarters. In addition to the classes required for the associate degree, classes for the bachelor's degree include contract documents, thesis development and furniture design and construction.

    Community College of Philadelphia

    • Students looking for a degree in interior design can find it at the Community College of Philadelphia. Students work toward earning an associate degree in the arts in interior design. The degree qualifies students to transfer to a four-year college if desired. For successful graduation, a student must complete 67 credits with at least a 2.0 grade point average. Classes required include CAD classes, presentation techniques, construction materials and detailing and design. High school students who aim to enter this program must take classes in high school, including geometry, algebra and two years of art classes.

    Drexel University

    • A bachelor of science in interior design is available to students at Drexel University through the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. Students take classes focusing on interior design, as well as art, art history and general education requirements. The program requires completion of 181 credits. Some students may desire to declare a minor to complement their degree in interior design. Students complete classes, such as analytical reading and writing, design, computer imaging and figure drawing. Students are required to complete three extensive writing classes during their first year of study.

    La Roche College

    • Located in Pittsburgh, La Roche College offers students a Bachelor of Science degree in interior design. Students are required to provide their own laptop for the course, along with the required software. During the course of study, occasional reviews are conducted by the administration to determine if the student is a good fit for the course of study. A grade of a C is required to move forward with the degree program. Required courses include history of art, textiles for interiors, drawing and building technology.

    Harcum College

    • At Harcum College, students can earn an associate degree in interior design, allowing them to work in the field. From that point, students can transfer their course of study to a four-year university to earn a bachelor's degree or work in the field for four years before taking the NCIDQ exam for certification. Students must have a high school GPA of at least 2.3 for admission to the program. Required courses for the degree include composition, interior design, history of architecture and business practices.
