Michigan Social Work Schools

Selecting the school you would like to get your Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) from is a decision that will affect the rest of your life. In Michigan, many colleges and universities offer a BSW, MSW or both. To narrow down your choices, you may consider demographics such as the size, cost and location of a school. Then refine your search further by reviewing a school's available facilities and staff qualifications.
  1. Western Michigan University (WMU)

    • The WMU School of Social Work offers both a BSW and an MSW. The School of Social Work is located in the College of Health and Human Services on the Kalamazoo campus. The school is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

    Wayne State University

    • The Wayne State University School of Social Work offers a BSW, MSW, post-master's and doctoral program. The program is located in the Thompson Home on the main campus of Wayne State University, which is in downtown Detroit. WSU offers a flexible class schedule designed to meet the needs of their students. Many members of the school teaching staff are research professionals with doctorates.

    University of Michigan

    • The University of Michigan School of Social Work is dedicated to creating social change and promoting social justice through excellence in research, education and practice. It offers MSW and doctoral programs, and continuing education courses. The University of Michigan dissolved the School of Social Work program in 2003, but brought it back in 2005 in response to alumni demands and new licensing requirements from the state and the U.S. Department of Human Services. This school is located in Ann Arbor.

    Grand Valley State University

    • The Grand Valley State University School of Social Work received its accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. The school offers both a BSW and MSW program. In addition, it offers a program that gives students the option to work towards both an MSW and an MPA (Master of Public Administration) simultaneously through the School of Social Work. This school is located in downtown Grand Rapid.
