The Largest Christian Colleges

Colleges and universities affiliated with the Christian faith have long been a part of American tradition, from Notre Dame to Brigham Young. Many of these schools are known for strong academic programs as well as offering students the ability to truly connect to their faith during their college years. There are many Christian-based schools throughout the United States; however, some are larger and more well-known than others.
  1. Liberty University

    • Billed as the "world's largest Christian university" on its website, Liberty University is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. It is behind only Mormon-affiliated Brigham Young University in number of attending students. It has over 200 undergraduate and graduate programs available for students, including degrees in English, law and religion. Students can express and expand their Christian faith via the weekly convocation services and being a part of one of the university's ministry programs which perform at various events throughout the country. The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.

    Loyola University Chicago

    • A Jesuit Catholic institution, Loyola University in Chicago has nearly 16,000 registered students. It is the nation's largest Catholic university. There are over 200 undergraduate and graduate programs open to students. Majors include art history, molecular biology, economics and women's studies. Loyola has several student organizations to get involved in, including a strong Greek community. Additionally, while there is a large Catholic community among students, there are also organizations for both Jewish and Muslim students to be involved with. Ministry programs take students to locations across the country and world.

    Emory University

    • A Methodist-affiliated institution, Emory University is on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. The school has just over 13,000 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled. The nine schools within the university offer degrees in a variety of fields, including biology, history and nursing. Emory's schools of medicine and law are renowned throughout the world. Though the school has a Methodist base, a wide variety of faiths attend the school, including Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists. In fact, the Dalai Lama is a guest professor at Emory, and has made personal appearances at the school twice since signing on for this Emory-Tibet partnership.

    Texas Christian University

    • Based in Fort Worth, Texas Christian University has over 9,000 students enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Its schools and colleges consist of business, communication, education and fine arts. The university is connected to Brite Divinity School, which was founded in 1914. It is one of four seminaries related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools. The university and the school are two different entities.
