Community Colleges in Vacaville, California

Vacaville is a semi-rural town located about twenty miles outside of Sacramento, California. Because of its small size, Vacaville has only one community college--Solano Community College. Solano has been providing college educations to Vacaville residents since 1945. The school offers a range of certificates and degrees to accommodate almost any student.
  1. About Solano Community College

    • Solano Community College serves the Solano County area with campuses in Vacaville, Fairfield and Vallejo. The new Vacaville facility is 40,000 square feet, with modern classrooms and state of the art computer labs. Solano Community College offers two-year associate's degrees and certificates.

    Admission

    • Solano Community College has open admission. Anyone with a high school diploma or a general equivalency degree (GED) can apply and enroll in classes. High school students may also apply with the approval of their parent and school principal. There are currently 11,055 students enrolled at Solano Community College, 2,630 of which are full-time and the other 8,452 part-time.

    Tuition, Fees and Financial Aid

    • As of 2011, California residents pay $26 per credit hour. Non-residents pay $190 per credit hour. Both resident and non-resident students are subject to additional fees. There is a flat $13 health fee charged each semester and a $1 per unit student center fee. Students can also purchase a parking pass for $20 a semester or purchase daily parking passes for $1. All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. As of 2011, 34 percent of Solano students receive financial assistance.

    Programs

    • The Vacaville campus of Solano Community College is home to the school's aeronautic and fire technology programs. Other programs offered include business, computer science, fine art, behavioral science, humanities, foreign languages, journalism, mathematics, natural and physical sciences and physical education. Most of these programs culminate in an associate's degree. There are also many certificate programs available, such as cosmetology, office technology, drafting, electronics and welding.
