Michigan State University was founded in 1855 and sits on a 5,200-acre campus in East Lansing. The campus is home to 558 buildings and, as of 2011, the college had a population of about 47,000 students.
More than 200 academic programs are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels in areas such as education, agriculture, nursing, engineering, law, social science, communications and more. Great Lakes Christian College is a private, for-profit academic institution that offers associate's and bachelor's degree programs.
Academic programs are available in Bible theology, business, music, Christian ministries, music, history and Christian education. Men and woman at the school have the opportunity to play basketball, soccer and tennis.
The school has about 230 students, as of 2011, and is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and The Association for Biblical Higher Education.
The Baker College of Owosso is located about 23 miles from East Lansing and has about 3,600 students, as of 2011. The private, not-for-profit college offers academic programs of study in business administration, health sciences, human service, engineering and technology, education and computer information systems.
In addition to numerous undergraduate degrees, students can complete online graduate degrees in business administration, occupational therapy and information systems.
Culinary and automotive technology training is also available at the college.
