Accounting Colleges in the U.S.

Colleges in the U.S. offer varying levels of accounting instruction in undergraduate or graduate degree programs. Students are required to complete general education, business core and accounting major or concentration requirements to earn a degree. The bachelor degree in accounting generally requires 120 credit hours and can be completed in four to five years, while the master degree in accounting requires an average of 30 hours and can be completed in one year.

The annual cost of attendance for undergraduate students is $9,400 for in-state residents and $31,200 for non-state residents, as of 2011. The annual cost of attendance for graduate students is $26,500 for in-state residents; $42,600 for non-state residents.

    University of Pennsylvania

    • The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania offers a bachelor degree in accounting, and has MBA and PhD programs with emphasis in accounting. In 2011, the annual cost of attendance for undergraduate students is $40,500; the annual cost of attendance for MBA students is $46,600.

    • The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers numerous accounting degree programs including the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA), Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) for individuals with a limited accounting background, Master of Accounting Science (MAS) for individuals with an accounting undergraduate background, and a PhD in Accounting.
