Accounting Colleges in the UK

There are various types of institutions which offer accounting courses in the UK. The courses may vary in length and nature; for example, while Universities offer degrees in accounting, the majority of institutions referring to themselves as colleges run other types of accounting qualification. Most of these courses are certified by one or more professional bodies, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

    • This college, near the Liverpool Street Station, has put together courses which study the regulations and issues at the heart of the accounting, as well as looking at the field of management, in order to ensure opportunities in a wide range of matters within accountancy.       The college offers courses at BA and Master's level and is a certified ACCA and CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) test centre.

    Hamilton College

    • In terms of the field of accounting, this college offers courses to attain ACCA, CIMA and CAT (Certified Accountant Technician) qualifications. The background of students who enrol on these courses varies. In general the College expects academic qualifications such as A-levels before entry, but some of its courses---the CIMA Qualification, for example---have no entry requirements.

      The ACCA program is varied and its syllabus includes modules in Business Analysis, Financial Management and Corporate Reporting. Studying for the CIMA qualification students can expect to encounter modules such as Risk and Control Strategy and Integrated Management.

    Oxford Business College

    • The accounting course here is a recognized route into the accounting profession, with full accreditation from the ACCA. The course is a full-time, three-year course; A-levels are required if under the age of 21 to enter the course, while mature students don't need previous academic experience.

      The College itself is an independent institution which mainly focuses on business and management courses. It boasts of the flexibility of its courses, which allow students to begin their studies at various points in the year. A recent inspection by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) rated the college 'good' or 'excellent' in each area of its teaching.

    London College of Accountancy

    • A training college which specializes in accounting and management courses, this college won the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2006 and offers courses for qualifications in ACCA, CAT and CIMA among others. Students may either work full or part time, with courses starting at four different parts of the year; the college places a premium on providing students with the skills needed to pass their exams as quickly as possible.

      Students also have the choice of following undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Anglia Ruskin University, in Cambridge, with whom the London College of Accountancy has strong links.
