Tarrant County College offers an Associate in Nursing degree. Upon graduating and passing the NCLEX -- the national nursing examination -- students will become a registered nurse, or RN. There is also an accelerated program for those students who are currently LVNs, or Licensed Vocational Nurses, to become an RN. Tarrant County College has a standard day schedule of classes, but also offers night and part-time classes for students who can't study during the day. As of 2011, the cost of the program was $8200. Texas Women's University is actually a coed university now that offers several nursing programs. Students can study through a traditional program, a weekend program or an online nursing plan. Texas Women's University charges tuition per credit hour, however nursing students are charged an additional $25 per credit hour. The University of Texas has a Dallas campus, but the Arlington one offers one of the top nursing programs in the university system. The University of Texas has bachelor's, master's and PhD programs for students. There is also an accelerated program for students who already have an RN to get their bachelor's of science in nursing. Students can graduate by taking classes online or through a traditional class schedule. To enter the program, students must be accepted to the university, complete prerequisites and take the HESI test. As of 2011, the resident undergraduate tuition was $4,646 per year.
