The University of Richmond has been ranked number 15 nationally among undergraduate business programs by "Business Week" in 2010. The Robins School of Business offers an accounting degree program, both on the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Accounting are required to complete 21 units that include modules such as accounting information systems, financial accounting, federal taxation and auditing. The Master of Accountancy program requires student complete 30 graduate credits, which can be done in a year. In addition to coursework and examinations, students will have to complete an internship for receiving the degree. The accounting program at George Mason University in Fairfax is organized by the School of Management that is located on the outskirts of Arlington. The undergraduate accounting degree program is called Bachelor of Science in Accounting. This program prepares the student for a career as an accountant, analyst and auditor. Students enrolled on the course are required to complete 120 credit hours by completing coursework and examination in modules such as financial accounting, e-commerce and federal taxation. The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) is an 18-month, full-time course. The university also offers a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Accounting. Continuing students of the MSA degree can avail the MBA degree by completing 18 additional credits.
Averett University in Danville is a fully accredited college offering 30 different major programs. The accounting department at Averett University prepares students for a career in government, public accounting, business and education. The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program fulfills the minimum requirements required for students to enroll for the CPS examination.
Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College of Business and Public Administration has its own accounting department that offers BSBA in Accounting and Master of Science in Accounting. In addition to general education subjects, students have to complete modules such as managerial accounting, cost accounting, financial accounting, tax and accounting systems.
Virginia Commonwealth University's accounting department has courses accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is a 120-hour program. The Master of Accountancy is a postgraduate degree program that requires students to complete 10 graduate courses. In addition to this, students in their sophomore year of their undergraduate degree can decide whether they would like to pursue their post graduation in accountancy from the same university. If yes, both the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accountancy programs can be combined and completed in five years.
Additional Virginia schools also offer accounting degrees. The Norfolk State University, Western Governors University and Hampton University offer Bachelor of Science in Accounting degrees. A wealth of courses including finance, statistics, algorithm, financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation and auditing are taught in the program. Strayer University offers students a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Business Administration with specialization in accounting.
