North Virginia Colleges

Colleges in northern Virginia are conveniently located within an hour's commute of the nation's capital. Colleges in the upper Virginia counties grant students easy access to the many cultural and historical activities that Washington D.C. offers, yet students are still able to return to less populated areas for their daily studies.
  1. George Mason University

    • Founded in 1972, George Mason has become one of the largest of Virginia's colleges and universities. The main campus is located in Fairfax, Virginia, but the college has three additional campuses: Arlington, Prince William and Mason in Loudon. George Mason offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines including public policy, information technology and engineering, economics, visual and performing arts, law, conflict resolution and life sciences.

    George Washington University -- VA Science and Technology Campus

    • Located in Ashburn, the Science and Technology Campus of George Washington University is close to Washington Dulles International Airport. This campus was founded in 1991 and offers two undergraduate degrees: a bachelor's of science in health sciences (pharmacogenomics) and a bachelor's of science in nursing. The Science and Technology campus also offers an impressive array of graduate studies including business, education, engineering, landscape design and health information technology.

    Marymount University

    • Marymount University was the first Catholic college established in Virginia. The students who attend this university are held to a high standard and are encouraged to examine current issues and speak up for social justice and peace. Marymount offers a vast range of programs in its undergraduate, graduate and certification programs.

    Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA)

    • NOVA offers various certification programs and two-year associate degrees at its nine campus locations. NOVA strives to prepare its students for a smooth transition into a four-year university after completion of an associate degree. NOVA holds a lengthy list of guaranteed admission agreements with universities across the United States.

    University of Mary Washington

    • Situated halfway between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, the University of Mary Washington was the only college in the Virginia, D.C. and Maryland region to be designated by the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011 as a "Best Buy School." Mary Washington offers over 30 undergraduate majors and five graduate degrees between its two campuses in Fredericksburg and Stafford County.
