How to Cite a Brochure in APA Style Writing

APA (American Psychological Association) is a widely used format to cite sources. It uses very specific rules for citations to help make reading references easier. When dealing with a brochure, you follow the same principles as you would citing a book, although you put "[Brochure]" after the title to indicate that it is a brochure.

Instructions

    • 1

Start with the name of the author or organization. Write out the author's last name but use only the initials for his first name. Separate two or more authors with an ampersand (&). If no author is listed, the title of the brochure should be listed first. Include all the authors unless more than eight are listed. Then, list the first six author followed by an ellipse and the last author's name. Example: Thomson, J.R., Laurence, D., & Morris, A.K.

    • 2

Place the year the brochure was printed in parenthesis after the author's (or authors') name. If no author is listed, the year should go after the title of the brochure. If no date is listed, place "n.d." in parentheses to indicate "no date."

    • 3

Capitalize the first word (and only the first word) of the title and place it in italics. Place the word "[Brochure]" and a period at the end of the title. The title should be listed after the author's name and the year unless no author is listed. If no author is cited, the title is listed first and the date follows it. An example would be "Guide to good eating [Brochure]."

    • 4

Place the place of publication after the title or date (whichever comes last). For places in the United States, list the city and state. For other countries, list the city, state or province and country. U.S. states should be abbreviated using the two-letter U.S. postal abbreviation. If more than one place is given, use only the first place listed.

    • 5

List the publisher last. The publisher should be separated from the place of publication with a colon rather than a period. Place a period after the name of the publisher. Example: New York, NY: Random House

    • 6

Use the DOI (digital object identifier) in place of the URL whenever possible. The DOI is usually listed near the copyright notice or the landing page. Place "doi:" before the doi. Example: doi:10.1057/palgrave.kmrp.8500141
