How to Cite a Brochure in Chicago Style

"The Chicago Manual of Style" was created by the University of Chicago Press in 1906. Chicago style is the guide used for American English grammar, punctuation and style. "The Chicago Manual of Style", or CMS as it sometimes is called, is used for citations in literature, art and history papers. There are two styles of documentation: a notes-bibliography system and a author-date system. Both styles include the same information but present it differently. Chicago style uses the notes-bibliography system.

Instructions

    • 1

List the in-text citation by using footnotes. "Chicago Manual of Style" prefers writers not use parenthetical citations for references.

    • 2

List footnotes the first time in the same way you list a bibliography citation. The first footnote needs to have all of the information, but the subsequent footnotes only need the author, the first four words of the title and the page number. For example: Boise State Nursing Dept. Admissions Requirement. p. 4. Chicago style rules prefer writers use footnotes for citations instead of a bibliography. However, either way is acceptable.

    • 3

Put a brochure in a bibliography by listing the author or organization, the brochure title in italics, the place the brochure was published, the publisher and the date. For example: Boise State Nursing Department. Admissions Requirements. Boise: Boise State University, 2009.
