How to Cite the Bureau of Justice Website in APA Style

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) website regularly publishes legal news and opinion. You may sometimes find that you have to cite government Internet sources in your reference list when writing term papers. If you need to cite a page from the DOJ website and your professor has asked you to adhere to American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines, simply follow the format for citing any nonperiodical web page.

Instructions

    • 1

List the name of the author, followed by a period. When citing from the DOJ website, the author would appear as follows: U.S. Department of Justice.

    • 2

List the date of publication in parentheses and followed by a period. For example: (4 May, 2011).

If no date is given, use: (n.d.).

    • 3

List the title of the document or page, followed by a period. According to APA style, you should only capitalize the first letter of the title and the first letter of any proper noun. For example: Man from Washington agrees to order barring him from reproductive clinic and surroundings.

    • 4

List the URL of the article or document in the following format: Retrieved from http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/May/11-crt-573.html

    • 5

Ensure that the finished citation appears in the following format: U.S. Department of Justice. (4 May, 2011). Man from Washington agrees to order barring him from reproductive clinic and surroundings. Retrieved from http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/May/11-crt-573.html
