How to Develop Offline Content to Import Into Blackboard

Blackboard serves as an online meeting and document storage location for students and professors alike. Generally used at the collegiate level, professors upload course documents (such as the syllabus) and assignments that students download and view. Additionally, professors can upload media files such as movie and sound clips. Overall, there are four ways that professors can develop content offline. These four ways allow you to edit grades, share media files, share regular documents and compress many files into one file.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Grade Center and develop your gradebook offline by inserting and upgrading later. Log in to Blackboad and click "Control Panel." Choose "Full Grade Center" from the "Grade Center" section. Click "Work Offline" and then "Download." Select the radio button from the "Select Data to Download" button and choose "Full Grade Center." Click "Tab" in Section 2 and press "Submit." Save the file as an Excel spreadsheet. Insert grades as normal.

    • 2

Store media content, such as videos or sound bytes, on a CD-ROM. This includes podcasts or videos you've recorded separately. Blackboard allows you to link directly to any offline content you store on the CD-ROM.

    • 3

Write documents and save them to your computer as normal. Save the content in formats that your students can open. PDF and Word documents are most common. Upload to Blackboard under the appropriate section (Course Documents, Assignments, etc.).

    • 4

Download file-compression software, such as WinZip or DropStuff, to compress many files into one and link this one file onto the Blackboard website.
