How to Manage E-Learning Content

Online courses rely heavily on e-learning content to provide the bulk of the material to students. E-learning content is educational material that has been adapted for an online presentation either in a self-guided course or in an instructor-led course. Instructors use e-learning content to organize, customize, and present their course. In order for an online course to operate smoothly for both instructors and students, instructors must know how to effectively manage their e-learning content.

Instructions

  1. Organization

    • 1

Organize your e-learning course content into the different media types on your computer. Keep images, videos, assignments, lesson plans and other course documents in separate folders or sections.

    • 2

Use the same organizational structure for each class or course to provide continuity.

    • 3

Review your e-learning content to make sure you include only current and necessary items.

    • 4

Break your content down into manageable modules for each week or class period.

    • 5

Find a learning content management system (LCMS) that works for you and your course. An LCMS provides a platform that you can use to store, organize and present your e-learning content to students.

    • 6

Add metadata to your course content. Metadata provides a tag for each piece of content that lets you know the content's purpose, creation date, objectives, level of difficulty or any other criteria that you specify.
