Mumbai University is home to the Western Regional Instrumentation Centre, which was established by the UGC in 1978. The Centre serves as a training ground for staff and students for the multiple advanced study programs conducted at Mumbai University, including workshops, seminars and research projects. Mumbai offers degree programs in the arts, commerce, law, dentistry, fine arts, science, technology and medicine. The university also offers language certificates in Russian, French, German, Persian, Arabic, Italian, Polish, Sanskrit, Marathi, Kannada, Hindi and Urdu.
The UGC is also affiliated with Sri Venkateshwar University. At the university the UGC opened a centre in 1990 to house the National MST Radar facilities created by researchers and scientists from other Indian Universities. The university allows more than 100 research scholars and 1,000 students to utilize its computer facilities every year. The university also offers degrees in applied chemistry, bio-chemistry, computer science, electronics, environmental science, mathematics, medicinal chemistry, microbiology, energy management, space technology and several other degree programs.
At the Indian Institute of Advanced Study the UGC established the Inter University Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences. The centre is designed to bring teachers from other universities and colleges together in order to host research seminars and study weeks that can help young teachers progress and also address national and international interests.
The Crystal Growth Centre was opened by the UGC in 1982 at Anna University. The centre was designed to advance the industry and technologies associated with crystal, to advance the access to essential lab resources and to facilitate the needs of institutions within India involved with crystal research. Anna university offers degrees in engineering, technology and architecture and planning. The university also has its own TV station, which allows the university to reach out and collaborate with affiliated universities.
