How to Enroll in Community Colleges

Community colleges are an ideal option for many who are considering continuing education after high school. With the smaller class sizes, more flexible schedules and cheaper tuition, attending a community college may provide an easier transition from high school than attending a larger university. Community colleges are also a good choice for older students returning to school. Community colleges offer themselves as a stepping stone to a university education or as an undergraduate degree. Although the details vary from college to college, many of the enrollment requirements remain the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Speak to an advisor at the college you hope to attend. Determine what kind of degree or technical training you wish to pursue and discuss schedule and payment or financial aid options.

    • 2

Meet the required age limit for the college you are considering. Many of them require you to be 18 years or older. Check with the enrollment office to see if there is a minimum age requirement.

Meet the education requirements. A high school diploma or GED is often required for enrollment. Obtain official copies of test scores or transcripts to attach to your enrollment application.

    • 4

Pay the enrollment fee. The amount will vary depending on the college you are applying to. Check with your particular college to see what types of payment types are allowed.

    • 5

Fill out the application form in full and mail it to the enrollment office or submit online as required. Double check with your college after submission to make sure that it arrived and that nothing is missing.
