College Scholarships in Arkansas

Scholarships are a method of paying for college that you don't have to pay back. Literally thousands of different scholarships are available, and you can combine them. They are provided by a private companies and generous individuals, and universities themselves may offer scholarships. Scholarships are more plentiful than schools, but scholarships are universal. If you have a scholarship, it is good for any school, unless a specific university gave it to you. Other than that restriction, students can use the majority of Arkansas-based scholarships at any Arkansas University.
  1. Arkansas Challenge Scholarship

    • One of the most common scholarships students get in Arkansas is one provided by the state government. This scholarship is called the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship, and if you meet certain educational requirements in high school, this scholarship gives various amounts of money. The maximum amount this scholarship pays is $3,500 annually. You must have 4 math and English credits, and 3 social studies and natural science credits. In addition to those requirements, your parents cannot make more than $60,000 a year. The final requirement is a score of at least a 15 on the ACT.

    Governor's Scholarship

    • Like the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship, The Governor's Scholarship is provided by the state government. This scholarship can be used to pay tuition, room and board, and any other mandatory expenses in college. The maximum amount it can cover is $10,000 per year. To earn this scholarship you must have a 3.5 GPA, a 32 on the ACT (1410 on the SAT), and you must show leadership. You can substitute being a National Merit Finalist for the the GPA requirement if need be.

    Arkansas Law Enforcement Dependent Scholarship

    • Dependents of fallen officers have their own scholarship program.

      If you are the biological child, stepchild, legally adopted child or spouse of an eligible Arkansas law enforcement officer who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty, the Law Enforcement Dependent Scholarship covers tuition and dorm fees. The scholarship will not pay the cost of books, food, school supplies and materials, or fees for extracurricular activities. It cover 8 semesters, and you must maintain a 2.0 to 4.0 GPA while on the scholarship, or you lose it. Spouses lose the scholarship if they remarry.
