College Scholarships for Girls

If your daughter is graduating soon and will be preparing for college, or even if your little girl is still young and you want to get an early start on handling college expenses, chances are you're looking for a variety of scholarships that will help to cover her education. There are a number of college scholarships that are specifically for girls, and many of these can help to significantly reduce the cost of tuition and educational materials.
  1. Girls Going Places Scholarship

    • The Girls Going Places scholarship is for girls who are between the ages of 12 and 18; the money is awarded to young women who are entrepreneurs, or are striving for financial independence at an early age. The total annual budget for the scholarship is $30,000--three top winners are awarded the scholarship each year, along with twelve finalists, and the money can be used to help further the young girls' business efforts, or to help pay for college. All applicants must be legal U.S. residents. Requirements for applying also include writing a 250-word personal statement, a completed application form that is signed by the girl's parent or legal guardian, and a recommendation letter that can be written by the girl's parent, mentor, or teacher.

    CosmoGIRL! of the Year Scholarship

    • CosmoGIRL, the version of Cosmopolitan magazine for young women, offers scholarships to girls and young women between the ages of 11 and 25. Scholarship applicants are required to write a 300-word essay explaining what would qualify them to be the CosmoGIRL of the Year; details about the young women's community involvement, outstanding academic achievements, or accomplishments in business should be highlighted in the essay. Current college students within the required age range can apply for the scholarship, regardless of major. The total allocated funds for the scholarship is $10,000 every year, and is distributed among all the year's scholarship winners.

    Girls Inc. National Scholars Program

    • The Girls Incorporate Lucy Miller Wright Scholars Program is especially for young women in their junior or senior years of high school who are members of a Girls Inc. affiliate in their city. A number of scholarships are awarded each year--some in the amount of $2500, and some totaling $15,000, and all money is applied to the young woman's college tuition at an accredited two or four year college. Applicants should be as active as possible in their local Girls Incorporated chapter to increase the chances of being awarded a scholarship, and should strive for academic excellence and community involvement.
