LPN Grants

A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is a professional who performs a variety of medical tasks while under the supervision of a registered nurse or doctor. For a person to become an LPN, she must become licensed in the field. To become licensed, she must complete a one- to two-year vocational training program. These programs consist of testing and hands-on experience. During the vocational training program, the student can choose to become certified in certain areas of practice, such as obstetrics or pediatrics, and then choose to specialize in them. Grants can assist a person in paying for vocational training and certification.
  1. FAFSA

    • The first thing a person should do is fill out the free application for federal student aid, also known as FAFSA. A student might be eligible for different grants, scholarships, loans and work-study opportunities. The different types of loans and grants a person receives depends on age, location, financial situation and need. All students are eligible for FAFSA, unless they have a drug conviction for an offense while they were receiving federal student aid, or owe a refund on a federal grant, or be in default on a federal student loan.

    AACN

    • The American Association of Colleges of Nursing, also known as AACN, offers grants to LPN students. Along with significant nursing career information, the group posts announcements for grants, scholarships, fellowships and other funding sources for nursing students. AACN posts grant opportunities each year and all nursing students are welcome to apply. The grant money is sent directly to the institution the student is attending.

    State Nursing Grants

    • State grants are available to all nursing students. The grants are provided to residents of a state and the money doesn't have to be paid back. The grants are awarded on a need basis. The grants are available in almost all states and the student may continue to receive the grant each year while completing her education. A student can apply for this type of grant through a school's financial aid office or online through the state.
