Iowa Criminal Justice Scholarships

Students who major in criminal justice study criminal behavior, the politics of crime, and the sociology and psychology involved in crime. There are many scholarships available for Iowa students thinking of majoring in criminal justice. Some of the scholarships can be used only for particular Iowa schools, while others can be used at any college, in Iowa or elsewhere.
  1. John Chase Memorial Scholarship

    • The John Chase Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship given to a junior or senior criminology major at the University of Northern Iowa who has a GPA of 2.5 or above. Preference may be given to applicants who are involved in any level of student government or those who live in Rider Hall. Students can apply for this scholarship through the Common Scholarship application available on the University of Northern Iowa website.

    David E. Whitmire Scholarship

    • The David E. Whitmore scholarship is for a graduate or undergraduate student at any four-year college in the United States who has declared a major in criminal justice, criminology, police administration or police science. The maximum scholarship amount is $500. Applications should be mailed to:

    Mary W. Lees Scholarship

    • The Mary W. Lees Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for Iowa State University. Requirements include being a non-traditional female student, returning to school as an undergraduate and majoring in criminal justice, sociology or public service and administration. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and show academic and professional potential. A 200-word paragraph summarizing the student's academic achievement and goals is also required.

    Alpha Kappa Delta Scholarship

    • The Alpha Kappa Delta Academic Advancement Scholarship is offered to a current member of AKD at Iowa State University who demonstrates leadership, scholarship or service. Applicants must be a junior or senior majoring in sociology, public service and administration or criminal justice and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A 200-word paragraph showing examples of your leadership, scholarship or service (or combination of all components) is also required. The scholarship amount is $250.
