Women in Aviation International (WAI) offers scholarships awarded specifically for women. The funds range from $2,000 to $3,000 and are distributed to women working toward an instrument rating or private or commercial certificate. The applicant must be a member of WAI and submit a resume along three reference letters, a 500-word essay describing her future goals, aviation history and any honorable mentions.

The Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance (AWAM) allocates grants provided by various companies and individuals to women who are members and who specialize in the field of servicing aircraft. Scholarships are awarded to students whose focus of study pertains to troubleshooting, aircraft technology, airplane maintenance and flight safety. Recipients are announced annually at a conference, and all the grants awarded may total up to $50,000.

The Ninety-Nines Inc. Amelia Earhart Memorial Flight Scholarship Program provides scholarships annually and requires membership in order to receive grant money. The organization offers funding of $300 to $5,000 for a variety of disciplines in aviation: additional training for pilot licensing, pilot rating training courses, type rating certification for any jet craft and aerospace training programs. A woman pilot who is in financial need and who has demonstrated a solo flight and competence in the written exam for private pilots also may seek grant money.

American Association for University Women (AAUW) offers the Selected Professions Fellowships for women who want to fulfill careers in science and technology. Its focus is to widen the boundaries for women who want to enter professions reputedly dominated by men, including in the fields of avionics and aeronautics.
