European Ph.D. Scholarships

Ph.D. students studying at European universities have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and fellowships. If you are a doctoral student currently enrolled at a European institution, you might qualify for these scholarships. If you are enrolled in a university outside Europe, you might still be eligible for funding if you are willing to relocate to a European country as part of the Ph.D. program.
  1. DAAD scholarships and research grants

    • Ph.D. students interested in doing research in a European country should look into funding opportunities through DAAD, or German Academic Exchange Program. DAAD is interested in funding students doing research on Germany's relationship to the rest of Europe. Applicants must be of German heritage. According to DAAD, qualifying applicants receive a monthly stipend of up to $4,725 (EUR) depending on the seniority of the applicant; economy-class, round-trip airfare to and from Washington, D.C. (up to a maximum of $770), and office space at the institute. Part of the research is done in the United States and part in Germany.
