The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living through education. The MREA offers workshops in natural building techniques, photovoltaics (solar panels), renewable energy businesses, solar hot water systems, solar heating and wind turbine technology and installation. The MREA Steve Hansen scholarship provides funding for students who attend college, technical college or other training courses to study energy efficiency, renewable energy or sustainable living. The $500 scholarship is open to residents of six Midwestern states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Michigan State University offers scholarships for study of renewable energy in Sweden and Denmark. The technical program examines various forms of renewable energies and associated technologies, environmental impact and safety. Sweden and Denmark are models of the shift to sustainable energy as they incorporate the highest percentage of renewable sources. The MSU Office of Study Abroad offers scholarships for their study abroad programs to both undergraduate and graduate students. Between 30 and 40 percent of applicants receive awards.

The Australian Institute of Energy is a member driven organization that seeks to promote understanding and awareness of energy issues and responsible energy policies. The AIE offers scholarships of up to $6,000 Australian dollars ($6,545) to students for tuition, conferences and study tours. Scholarships can cover expenses associated with attending a course, seminar or conference. Within six months of the award recipients must present a paper to a technical meeting of AIE.

The Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Wind Energy Scholarship is a available to students who pursue a wind energy turbine technician certificate. The certificate program trains students for careers in wind energy technology. The program prepares students to become wind turbine service technicians able to install, test and repair utility-scale and small wind turbine systems. The U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration is the primary funding source of the scholarship.
