American Universities With International Scholarships

Many American universities award qualifying international students with various scholarships to help pay for their education. Most scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen and continuing students. These scholarships are predominantly need-blind and merit based. Searching for financial assistance can be a complex task and the programs available are often limited and competitive, but being successful in obtaining an international scholarship can be rewarding.
  1. Southern New Hampshire University

    • New undergraduate international students accepted into New Hampshire University can receive one $1,000 academic scholarship annually, in which $500 is applied over two full time semesters. This scholarship is automatically awarded to students with a grade point average equivalent to 3.0, as determined by by the Director of International Admissions, until funds are exhausted. Continuing students who maintain a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 will are eligible for $1,000 and students with a higher GPA are eligible for $1,500 annually.

    University of Miami

    • The University of Miami has three competitive merit-based scholarships available to new international undergraduate students. Interested students must apply for admission and include a bank letter displaying the ability to pay the difference between the scholarship and tuition by the deadline. To qualify, students must have demonstrated academic excellence in their high school career and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1300, based on critical reading and math sections only. The Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholarship pays full tuition, which is roughly $136,000, for four years. The University Scholarship awards students with $96,000 over a period of four years, annually. The Dean's Scholarship provides $16,000 annually over a period of four years.

    University of Portland

    • Scholarships are available to incoming and continuing international students attending the University of Portland. To qualify, students must be a citizen of a country other than the United States and complete the International Student Scholarship Application. Incoming students must demonstrate academic success and continuing students must uphold a 2.0 GPA. The maximum award per year for undergraduate students is $12,000 and $7,000 for graduate students.

    Hawaii Pacific University

    • Hawaii Pacific University offers its incoming international students a partial tuition waiver that is the International Undergraduate Scholarship. Students must include a statement of financial sponsorship, a bank letter showing sufficient funds to cover one year of study, transcripts from previously attended colleges, and meet the English requirements. A completed application should include a letter of recommendation from a former teacher and a letter of motivation by the deadline. The award is renewable each year until a student completes an undergraduate program, as long as the student remains in good academic standing.
