Oseola McCarty, born March 7, 1908, initiated a scholarship fund in her name herself. McCarty became widely recognized for her philanthropy work in 1995, when at the age of 87, she was featured in a human interest story on Good Morning America for donating most of her life savings to the University of Southern Mississippi.
