Review your study guide. The study guide will include sample questions that are similar to those seen on the examination, in areas such as math, critical reading and writing skills. The sample questions will include sentence completion, multiple choice and identifying sentence errors.
Allot a specific amount of time for studying. You should imitate the test's time limits. For example, if you have 30 minutes to complete the math section, time yourself so you can practice trying to complete all the sample questions in 30 minutes. When you take the test, however, you shouldn’t rush to complete all the questions. Rather, make sure everything is correct while still trying to finish on time.
Consult a teacher about practicing for the PSAT. Your teacher has a good idea of what you can achieve academically, so she can help you plan your studying. Show a teacher your previous scores and he may be able to tell you what you can do differently, in order to improve.
Visit collegeboard.com. This is the official website for the PSAT examination. You can read tips on achieving high scores, view more sample questions--plus explanations for each answer--and take a complete practice examination. After the practice exam, you will see your correct and incorrect answers and explanations, and view ways to improve.
Take a PSAT prep course. Test prep schools, such as Kaplan and Sylvan, can pair you with a tutor to help you prepare for the examination. You will go to a series of classes each week and you can receive one-on-one assistance. Your test prep tutor will give you better study techniques to help you receive a higher score on the PSAT.
