How to Find Out PSAT Scores

PSAT is an acronym that stands for Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. You may also see the test referenced by the acronym of its official name, PSAT/NMSQT. The second part of that acronym stands for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Schools administer the test in October each year to high school juniors who elect to take it. Some schools allow sophomores to take the test for practice. If you have taken the PSAT or plan to take it in the future, you'll want to know how to obtain your scores.

Instructions

Pick up your scores from the guidance counselor's office at the school where you took the test. The scores are mailed to the school in December, and the school decides when and how to distribute the scores. At most schools, the guidance counselor is the person in charge of standardized testing and will announce specific instructions about how and when to pick up your scores.

Contact the guidance counselor or other person in charge of testing if you haven't received an announcement about the scores by mid-December. Politely inform her that you understand the school receives the scores in December and ask for details about how and when the scores will be distributed.

Register for a free My College Quickstart account on the College Board's website to view your scores online. The College Board is the organization that governs the administration of the PSAT. You can do this as an alternative to obtaining your results from your school, or you can do both. The scores are available for online viewing in December, and you will receive an e-mail notifying you when the results are available.
