Start by learning about what is on the test. The NCLEX is a multiple choice exam that has many different questions. You can expect to be asked questions about subjects such as infection, care of patients, providing comfort, risk reductions and maintaining a sterile enviornment. Make sure that you study the areas that are on the test.
Take a practice test. Practice tests are essential to help you get a feel for the final exam. A practice test will let you see the type of questions are on the exam. If possible make sure that you take the test under timed conditions to stimulate the actual test taking experience.
Understand how the test is graded. The NCLEX RN exam is graded on a pass fail basis. You can expect to encounter test questions that start at medium and then get harder. A machine will give you the questions one by one. Once the machine has determined that you have answered enough questions the exam will stop. You may take as few as 75 questions or over 200 questions in a single exam.
Form a study group. A study group can help you learn material more effectively. Contact your fellow nurses. Set a time and a date each week to study together. Bring all materials as well as notes that you have taken from class. Pass around textbooks and any practice tests that you have on hand.
