How to Change Fahrenheit to Celsius the Easy Way

The Fahrenheit scale is commonly used to measure temperature in the United States. Much of the rest of the world used the Celsius temperature scale. You may have learned a formula that utilizes fractions to change Fahrenheit to Celsius when you were a math or science student, but an easier method exists for conversion.

      Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature. For example, if the temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit, subtract 32 from 86 to get 54.

      Multiply the result from Step 1 by 5. Continuing the example, multiply 54 by 5 to get 270.

      Divide the result from Step 2 by 9. To complete the example, divide 270 by 9 to get 30. Therefore, 86 degrees Fahrenheit is equal to 30 degrees Celsius.
