How to Evaluate Accuplacer Test Results

Standardized testing comes in many forms in the U.S. education system. Testing can occur at many different grade levels and for different subjects. The Accuplacer testing system was developed to provide skill information in the subjects of English, math and reading. The Accuplacer test is taken via computer, which allows results to be given instantaneously upon completion. Accuplacer results are used in college acceptance and college course selection.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that all personal information is accurate. This information can include your name, date of birth, address and school information.

    • 2

Review the number of correct answers for each subject. The Accuplacer results will display the number of right answers scaled as if 120 questions had been answered. This value can also be viewed as a percentage of correct answers versus total number of questions answered.

    • 3

Review the percentile ranking. The percentile ranking compares your test score against all other students in the specified subject and difficulty. For example, having a 92 percent in reading indicates that you scored as well or better than 92 percent of the test takers in that difficulty.

    • 4

Determine whether the test results are adequate for college placement or if retesting is necessary to improve your scores. Accuplacer and other standardized testing requirements will differ between colleges and may not be necessary in some cases.
