Receive a passing score on a GED exam. In Pennsylvania there are several services to prepare test takers for the GED exam. The Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center offers free morning and evening GED preparation courses for adults. Distance learning is also an option for test preparation. The test consists of writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics sections. A passing score is at least a total of 2,250 points. There are three tests given every year at nearly 150 sites throughout Pennsylvania. You cannot take the GED exam online.
Secure the original copy of your GED certificate. Unfortunately, duplicate copies of GED certificates are not issued in Pennsylvania or any other state. Transcripts are delivered to your address with your diploma upon receiving a passing score. Transcripts will still be mailed to testers with scores below 2,250 points, but no diploma will be included. Official transcripts, however, are available by request and can be used in place of a hard copy of a diploma as proof of graduation.
Request official GED transcripts by completing a transcript request form found at the Pennsylvania Department of Education website. Include your name, the year you took the test, your birth date, social security number and phone number. Write a check or get a money order for $3 and send your signed letter of request to Commonwealth Diploma Program, 333 Market Street 12th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17126. Transcript requests take two to four weeks to process.
