Tally or add up the total number of questions that a student answered correctly. According to the TEA website, this is referred to as the raw score or simply the number of questions the student answered correctly.
Find the raw score on the chart for the particular grade level reading test. These scales will vary with different grade levels. Next to the raw score on each chart is a scale score and a lexile measure. The scale score converts the raw score to a numbered score that takes into account the difficulty level of the questions according to TEA. This score is also used to determine if a student passed the exam. The lexile measure is a percentage measure against other students who took the same exam. The higher the lexile number, the better the student performed in comparison with his peers.
Use the scale score on the same chart to determine whether the student passed. Required scale scores vary depending on the grade level of the exam; in some cases students need to only get 26 questions right to pass, while some grade levels require as many as 35 correct responses. The scale score also enables you to see if a student received commended performance, which is a high performance award level. The required score for commended performance varies by grade level as well.
