Open the mailing with the SOL performance report. Read the first column to determine the category of assessment shown, such as reading or math. The second column tells you the form number, which is not necessary to understand scoring.
Look at the third and fourth columns to tell you the number of questions answered correctly and the number of test questions in all. This is broken down by reporting category to show how many of each sub-category were answered correctly.
Look at the fifth column to determine the performance results; this will provide you with a scaled score between 0-600. A score of 400 or above means that the test was passed. A score of 500 or above demonstrates an advanced proficient score. The next column shows if the test was passed or failed and the level of proficiency.
Read the final column for the performance level description. This column provides a specific description of the knowledge and skills for the performance level.
Contact your child's school or teacher if you need more help understanding the SOL test scores or for ideas as to how to further help your child with his/her learning.
