The New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (ASK) test is administered once a year to elementary students in the state of New Jersey. The ASK tests students on their learning abilities and academic progress. In addition, ASK test scores are used to determine which elementary students are in need of further educational support to reach academic standards for students at their age and grade level. Interpreting ASK scores to find out your student's academic progress allows you to see what, if anything, your student needs assistance with in the classroom.

Read your student's ASK scores. The ASK test consists of three categories: language arts, math and science. Scores range from 100 to 300.

Find your student's test score in the three scoring categories given to students who take the ASK test. Scores are divided into three categories: 100 to 199, 200 to 249 and 250 to 300.

Categorize your student's scores. Any score between 250 and 300 means your child is advanced proficient; scores between 200 and 249 are proficient; and scores 199 and below are partially proficient.
