How to Calculate an AFQT Score

The Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) is part of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), the entrance test given by the U.S. Armed Forces to determine an applicant's suitability for service When expressed as a percentile, the overall AFQT score is used to determine your eligibility to join the military and aids in assigning you to a specific skills-based career track.

Instructions

    • 1

Compile the following scores from your results sheet: Mathematical Knowledge (MK), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Word Knowledge (WK), and Paragraph Comprehension (PC).

    • 2

Add your word knowledge score to your paragraph comprehension score. This will be your verbal ability composite score.

    • 3

Multiply the result in Step 2 by 2. For example, if your verbal ability composite score is 20, then 20 x 2 = 40.

    • 4

Add your arithmetic reasoning score and your math knowledge score to the doubled verbal ability composite score that you calculated in Step 3. For example if your arithmetic reasoning score is 32 and your math knowledge score is 30, then your raw AFQT score would be:
      32 + 30 + 40 = 102
