Select a well-known children's song, such as "Mary Had A Little Lamb" or "Old MacDonald," with rhythmic phrases that accommodate the word lengths you wish to teach. For example, the "e-i-e-i-o" in "Old MacDonald" will accommodate five-letter words.
Change the words of the children's song to give instructions on how to spell the commonly misspelled words in your list, announcing the word first, then spelling it out. For example, if you wanted to teach the word "him" set to the melody of "London Bridge is Falling Down," you could sing: "Let's spell 'him' / here we go / h-i-m, h-i-m / Let's spell 'him' / here we go / You spell it h-i-m."
Change the word you want to teach with each new verse. For example, if you are teaching six-letter words, teach "friend" in the first verse and "little" in the second verse.
Repeat this process for commonly misspelled words of different lengths, using a different song for each. For example, teach five-letter words set to the tune of "B-I-N-G-O."
