Preschool Art Projects for September

September is when you feel a slight nip is in the air and know that fall is on the way. For your preschool class, center your art projects around the month of September, using fall-themed projects and colors. Your preschoolers will love a slight change in routine and will also learn about the month that ushers in the fall.
  1. Apple Tree

    • Before class, draw three medium sized (about 2 inches in diameter) apples on a sheet of paper. You can also use clip art if you don't wish to hand draw them. Write colors (red, green and blue) inside the apple and cut out three apples (one with each color word) for each student. Create an outline of a large tree on a separate sheet of 8.5" x 11" piece of paper and make copies for each student.

Begin the classroom activity by handing out the tree worksheet. Next, hand each student three of the "color word" apples (as described above). Pass out crayons in only those colors at each desk or table. Instruct the students to color their apples to match the color written on the inside. During the activity, walk around the classroom and provide assistance as needed.

Once the students color each apple, pass out non-toxic glue sticks to paste the apples to their trees for a completed project.

    Leaf Sponge Painting

    • Divide your students into groups of five and give each a child an 11'' x 14'' sheet of paper. Place various sizes of sponges cut into the shape of leaves along with fall-colored finger paints like orange, brown, yellow and red in the center of each table.

Have the kids dip a leaf into a color and then press it onto their paper. Show them how to dip only one side of the sponge into the paint so their hands stay clean.

    S is for September

    • To help your students learn their letters, hand each child an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper with a large "S" in the middle. Ask them what words start with S (help them by sounding out the "S" sound and giving examples like September, snake, snack, sugar, etc).

Write their answers on the board and then have them to draw any of those words inside and around their "S" worksheet. Draw a picture next to each word on the board to give students visual examples.
