Let your preschoolers make a family tree that shows all of the important people in their families. Give each child a large piece of paper with the outline of a tree trunk drawn on it. Let each child use brown finger paints to color in the tree. Then cover his hands with green finger paints and show him to move his hands around the paper to make the trees leaves. Write the names of people in each child's family on leaves cut out of green paper. Then let him glue them to the tree, where the green paint is. They don't need to be glued in any special order for this family tree craft.
Have your preschoolers draw and color pictures of their families on the inside of a paper plate. Then let them decorate the outer circle with markers, crayons and stickers so that it looks like a picture frame. Punch two holes near the top of the paper plate and tie a piece of yarn or string through them to make a hanger for the family portrait.
Have each child find and cut out pictures of families in magazines . Encourage her to look for pictures for different people in families, like grandparents, parents, children and babies. Then have her glue her pictures onto a piece of construction paper. Discuss the pictures she chose and what the people were doing in each picture.
Have each child draw pictures of the members of his family on card stock. Cut out each person. Punch a whole in the top of each person and tie a piece of string or yarn through it. Hang the pictures from a hanger. Hang the mobiles around the classroom, so that the children can see each other's families.
