Send home a letter to the parents asking them to choose just one phone number for their child to learn. This could be the mother's cell phone number, the house number or another number. Ask the parents in the letter to write down the number on the letter and return it to school.
Write the telephone numbers down on each student's phone worksheet. Have each child color the phone and then practice "pushing" on the numbers in the correct order.
Gather the students together in a circle after they have practiced "pushing" the numbers on their paper phones. Repetition is important in helping them to remember their important number.
Go around the circle and have each preschool student say and clap his or her telephone number, one at a time. Clapping while saying each number helps the numbers "stick" in the child's mind. They will have to use the worksheets to help them remember the numbers at this point.
Hang the telephone worksheets where the students can see them (make sure their names are on the front of the worksheets). Each day, have the students say their name and telephone numbers during circle time. Pass out special stickers to each child who says the number correctly or put the stickers on the phone worksheets.
