Decorate pictures of the letters of the alphabet. On pieces of paper, print individual upper- and lowercase letters. Ask children to identify the letters and the sounds they make. Instruct children to trace the letters with their fingers and then with crayons. Have them glue items onto the letters that begin with the particular letter. For example, have children glue pieces of hay on the letter "H" or seeds on the letter "S."
Sing the alphabet song. As you sing the song, point to each letter of the alphabet on an alphabet chart. After singing the song, randomly point to letters on the alphabet chart and have children identify the letters.
Send children on a letter scavenger hunt. Print the letters of the alphabet on index cards and hide them around the room. Instruct children to look for the letters. Once all of the letters have been found, have children assemble in a meeting area. Go through the letters, name them and arrange them in alphabetical order.
Have children "fish" for letters. Write the letters of the alphabet on index cards. Punch a hole through each card and place a paper clip through each hole. Spread the cards on the floor. Tie a length of yarn to a ruler and attach a magnet to the end, creating a fishing pole. Name a letter of the alphabet and have children "catch" the letter.
Create letter-tracing books. Write the letters of the alphabet on index cards. Slip the index cards into the pages of a photo album. Provide children with dry-erase markers and have them trace the letters in the photo album.
Play alphabet bingo. Create alphabet bingo cards on construction paper. Randomly announce letters; if a child has the letter you have announced, she marks it with a coin. The first child to cover a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line wins the game.
