How to Cook in a Preschool Classroom

Preschool wouldn't be nearly as much fun without snacks and treats. Teachers often cook in the classroom to help students learn about the world around them. When cooking, it's best to have at least two important things in your classroom: a microwave and a toaster oven. Using these appliances, you can cook a variety of treats suitable for preschool students. Use a little creativity when choosing recipes. The recipes should fit into your current theme and be simple enough to make with limited supplies.

Instructions

  1. Haystacks

    • 1

Make haystacks for the class to enjoy during farm week. Combine the bag of butterscotch chips and the jar of peanut butter into a microwavable safe bowl.

    • 2

Heat the bowl in the microwave until the mixture has melted. Heat it for 20 seconds at a time, stopping to stir it to prevent scorching. Be sure to scrape around the sides of the bowl.

    • 3

Pour the chow mein noodles into the bowl. Carefully stir the noodles into the mixture until they are well coated. Use a spatula to make sure you safely scrape the sides of the bowl to evenly coat the noodles.

    • 4

Dish out spoonfuls onto a piece of wax paper. They should somewhat resemble farm yard "haystacks." Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving.

    Easy Pizzas

    • 5

Bake easy pizzas to celebrate a week of Italian learning. You need a hamburger bun for each student, pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.

    • 6

Have each student open up their hamburger bun. This will be their pizza "crust." Each student will end up with two mini pizzas. Place the buns on a paper plate to reduce the mess.

    • 7

Spoon out a little bit of pizza sauce on the inside of each part of the hamburger bun. Spread it around until it completely covers the top.

    • 8

Allow the students to sprinkle their pizzas with mozzarella cheese. You can supply them with a handful on their plate. That way the students get to sprinkle on their cheese, but they can't grab to much cheese for their pizzas.

    • 9

Bake two pizzas at a time in a toaster oven. Preheat the oven at 400 degrees and allow them to bake three to five minutes. Give them time to cool off before serving to the students.
