Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah all occur at the same time of the year and are celebrated by cultures throughout the world. Gift giving is a common theme for all of these holidays, so help your child create a wish book of the gifts he wants. You will need construction paper, crayons or markers, catalogs for gift ideas and other craft items. This project helps teach organization and the development of language arts.
A special gift for a parent or loved one can be a homemade holiday card created by your preschooler. Using child-safe scissors, crayons and markers, parents and children can craft interesting and fun cards to be passed out. While the child may not be able to write, he will be able craft symbols and some letters. This teaches language arts, organization and the meaning of the holiday through the designs on the card.
Preschoolers can learn about measurement and social studies simply by helping you cook traditional holiday treats. Most cultures have traditional dishes that are served during the holiday season, and by letting your preschooler help out with the preparations, it is a great way to teach him about his heritage and the importance of the holidays to the family. He can measure the ingredients and help pour, but he should be excluded from any stove activities and should always be supervised by an adult.
