Fun Activities & Games for Preschool

Preschool students learn best through play; fun and interactive activities will both engage and challenge them. Children become so involved in the games and activities that they do not even realize they are learning. Incorporate some fun activities into your classroom that any group of preschoolers will enjoy.
  1. Train Game

    • Line up the chairs in your classroom like seats on a bus. Tape a sheet of construction paper with a number printed on it on each seat. Give each child a ticket with a number corresponding to his seat. You can be the engineer and take the tickets from the children and punch a hole in them before returning them. To encourage their imagination further, give them other props such as maps and suitcases.

    Button Button

    • Have the children sit in a circle. Have one student sit in the middle and close her eyes. Pass a button or another small object around the circle chanting "Button, button, who's got the button?" When the person in the middle says "stop," everyone puts their hands behind their backs. The person sitting in the middle then gets three guesses to see who has the button.

    Doggy, Doggy, Where's Your Bone?

    • Have all the children sit together on the floor, but have one child on a chair facing the wall and away from the group. That child is the doggy. Put an object under the chair; a small stuffed animal works well for this. Choose one child to hide the object somewhere in the room. Once the child has hid the object, everyone chants, "Doggy, doggy, where's your bone? Somebody stole it from your home." The child on the chair then gets up to look for the object while everyone else helps her out by telling them her whether she is "hot" or "cold."

    Obstacle Course

    • Turn the playground into an obstacle course, then time the students to see how quickly they can get through it. Some examples include weaving in and out of cones, crawling under a rope tied up between to trees, walking on a balance beam (or a line drawn with chalk), running though tires or throwing a ball through a hoop.
