Give your preschoolers a box of colored pencils and a sheet of paper. Talke them outside on a nature walk to discover the bugs, trees and birds. Tell them to draw pictures of anything they find interesting while on the nature walk. When you get back to the classroom, have each child talk about his picture and what he saw on the walk.
Help teach your preschoolers about numbers with a game of number toss using beanbags. Cut several holes in the bottom of a cardboard box and label each hole with a number (1 through 10). Purchase 10 beanbags and write the numbers 1 through 10 on the beanbags. Mark a standing line and place the box about five feet from the standing line. The children must stand at the line and try to toss the numbered beanbags into the corresponding holes. Award a small prize to each child who makes the correct bag in the correct numbered hole.
Blindfold one child at a time and make noise with an object, such as snapping your fingers, dangling a set of keys, pounding a drum, blowing a whistle or tapping two spoons together. Award a small prize to each preschooler who can correctly identify the sound.
Divide the class up into two teams and mark a line down the middle of the room. Each team gets on one side of the room. Give each team a newspaper. When you say, "Go," the preschoolers take sheets of newspaper and crumple them in balls to throw over to the other side of the classroom. Tell the children the object of the game is to have the least amount of newspaper snowballs on your side of the class at the end of the game. After five minutes, call time and count the snowballs on each side. Award small prizes to the team who has the least amount of newspaper snowballs on their side.
