Write each letter of the alphabet on different clothes pins in permanent marker. Cut out several magazine pictures, at least one picture for each letter of the alphabet. Place the clothes pins on one table and the pictures on another table. Each child must grab a clothes pin from the table and then find the picture that goes with the clothes pin. If the child correctly identifies the picture and letter, award him with a small prize.
Teach your preschoolers how to recognize numbers, count and sort in this math game. Place cupcake liners in muffin tins and write the numbers 1 through 10 on the bottom of each liner. Give the children small blocks, candies or poker chips to sort into the muffin tins. If the muffin cup has a five in the bottom, the child must put five blocks, candies or pokers chips in the cup. If the children sort the correct amount in each cup, award them with small prizes.
Place a piece of plastic wrap on each child's desk and squirt shaving cream on it. Layer another piece of plastic wrap on top of the shaving cream. The children can use their fingers to write on the plastic wrap. Tell the children not to use their fingernails, as this could puncture the plastic. Call out a letter or number and have each child write it on her "shaving cream" board. Walk around and award a prize to each child who wrote the number or letter correctly.
Purchase several sets of magnetic letters and hide them all over the classroom. Call out a letter and have the children search the classroom for that letter. The first child to find the correct letter wins a prize. Another variation is to hold up a picture and have the preschoolers find the letter that corresponds with the first letter of the word in the picture.
