How to Make an Indian Headdress at Home

A simple Native American headdress is one thing that you and your kids can make with just a few everyday materials. While creating this piece of Indian dress, talk to your young child about the Native Americans' contribution to the history of America to help turn the activity into an educational lesson as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two strips, both 1 1/2 inches wide, out of a cardboard cereal box. Staple the two ends together to create one long strip of cardboard. Wrap the cardboard around the head of the child to measure for the correct fit. Staple the headband together and trim the excess. Be aware of ponytails when sizing.

    • 2

Cut colorful feathers out of an assortment of construction paper. Cut each sheet of paper in half, then cut out a feather shape. Make small cuts into the edge of the feathers to make them look a little more realistic.

    • 3

Decorate the head band with shapes and designs, using crayons or markers.

    • 4

Adhere the feathers to the back side of the headband using glue. Allow the glue to dry.
