Cut the top flaps from an empty cardboard appliance box with a utility knife. Choose a side of the box to be the front of the rocket.
Place two or three poster-size sheets of card stock end to end. Tape the ends together with duct tape. Form the card stock into the shape of a cone and place it on top of the cardboard box. Adjust the shape of the cone until its bottom edge is flush with the top edge of the box. Tape the cone together, then use more duct tape to secure the bottom edge of the cone to the top edge of the box.
Brush liquid craft glue over the cone and wrap it in aluminum foil. Brush the appliance box section of the rocket with glue and cover it with foil. Brush the two sections of cardboard that were cut from the top of the appliance box with glue, then wrap them in foil. Let the glue dry for 24 hours.
Add strips of duct tape to the foil to decorate the rocket. Wrap a strip around the base of the cone. Add four more long strips, descending from each corner, from the tape on the cone to the base of the box.
Tape the long end of each of the two foil-covered flaps to the left and right sides of the rocket's base, 2 or 3 inches from the front corners.
Paint the words "United States of America" with black tempera paint down the rocket's right side. Paint a series of numbers or other words to match your play on the left side of the rocket.
Use the utility knife to cut an opening in the front or back of the rocket if the actors need to get inside. If you cut an opening, apply duct tape over the cut edges so the foil remains intact.
