How to Make a Box for Kindergarten Rewards

Reinforcing children for positive behaviors is more effective than punishing their negative behaviors. Creating a treasure box for rewards is a common way that kindergarten teachers reinforce positive behaviors and strong work habits. With some simple decorations and a few prizes, you will have a treasure box to last all year long. Allowing the children to take part in creating their reward box will make it all the more meaningful to them.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a shoe box in white paper. Cover both the box and the lid.

    • 2

Give the children a selection of stickers and allow them to take turns decorating the box.

    • 3

Fill the box with a variety of small trinkets. These can be bought from a variety of stores online or from a dollar store. (See the Resources Section).

    • 4

Keep the box in a location only accessible by you, the teacher. Take the box out when one of your students has earned a reward. This could be for a particularly nice act or for filling up a sticker chart.

    • 5

Allow each student who has earned a reward to choose his own prize from the treasure box.
